NATIONWIDE PROTEST: Western Ports Police Command Promises To Ensure Protection of Port Facilities

In anticipation of the nationwide protest set to commence on 1st August 2024, the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola, has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding port facilities and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of economic activities.

CP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola emphasized that while the Command acknowledges the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, it will enforce the right of free passage on all port access roads. The Command has issued a stern warning against any actions that could disrupt port operations, noting that it will not tolerate activities that could escalate into chaos.

Comprehensive deployment of human and operational resources has been executed across various key port locations. These include Apapa Port, Tincan Island Port, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (phase 1 & 2), Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, Oil logistics and offshore support terminals, oil tanker terminals, private and government-owned jetties, bonded warehouses, transit trailer parks, Niger-Dock integrated port and free zone on Snake Island, and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Corporate Headquarters in Marina, Lagos.

The Command issued a clear warning to potential troublemakers intending to exploit the protest, stating that any attempts at incursion through waterways, forceful entry into port complexes, or road blockages will be met with strong resistance in accordance with the law.

CP Ishola assured continuous collaboration with maritime stakeholders, unions, and the business community. He highlighted the Command’s dedication to using actionable intelligence and working in synergy with other security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

ASP Isaac Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, reiterated the Command’s stance and its readiness to protect port facilities and maintain economic stability.
