The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has taken a significant step toward advancing Nigeria’s energy future with the launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative’s (Pi-CNG) Conversion Incentive Program, aimed at the rideshare sector. The event, held over the weekend at NASENI’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Engineering, Training, and Conversion facility in Utako, also saw the introduction of the MY-CNG App, designed to facilitate the transition to cleaner energy for drivers across the country.

Presiding over the landmark event, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, emphasized the initiative’s critical role in Nigeria’s ongoing gas revolution. He highlighted the potential of CNG as a cleaner and more affordable vehicle fuel, capable of reducing transportation costs by up to 70 percent and delivering 40 percent savings for car owners.

“This initiative is a direct response to the current economic challenges, offering a tangible solution to help reduce the cost of living for Nigerians,” Halilu stated. He added that the Conversion Incentive Program, which offers a 50 percent discount to drivers who sign up and use the MY-CNG App, is specifically tailored to benefit drivers in the rideshare sector, including those working with Uber and Bolt.

The launch event was attended by key government and industry stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources, Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, and the Honourable Minister for Information and National Orientation, represented by the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Muhammed Bulama.

In his remarks, Halilu also highlighted the collaborative efforts between NASENI and its partners, Pi-CNG, Portland, and Dana Motors, in making this initiative a reality. “Working together, we can and will transform Nigeria’s energy and transportation sectors,” he affirmed.

The launch of the MY-CNG App and the Conversion Incentive Program underscores NASENI’s commitment to leveraging technology to drive national transformation. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to deliver market-ready products that reduce living costs, improve quality of life, and support broader national development goals, including energy efficiency, climate action, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

As Nigeria’s leading technology-transfer agency, NASENI continues to foster innovation, research, and development to support the country’s industrial growth and economic sustainability.
