NASENI Launches New Tech Products To Bolster Nigerian Technology Market

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) introduced four innovative tech products at a press conference at its headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant stride in fulfilling its commitment to promote locally developed technology. The unveiling was led by the agency’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, who presented the NASENI Laptop, Android smartphone, Lithium battery, and a 300-watts LED Solar Street Lamp.

The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu briefing the media during the unveiling of new products from the Agency at its headquarters in Abuja on Thursday May 9, 2024.

During the event, Mr. Halilu highlighted NASENI’s journey towards commercialization and technology transfer, consistent with the agency’s Strategic Launchpad. He pointed out that some of these new products are already available in the market, while others have been pre-booked for the rest of the year. This launch follows closely on the heels of previous innovations such as the Solar Irrigation System, Electric Keke, Electric Motorcycle, and Solar-powered Cargo Tricycle, which were showcased earlier this year.

Mr. Halilu emphasized that NASENI’s mission is to foster a national brand for Nigerian-made products, aiming to reduce the nation’s import bill, create jobs, and generate wealth. He explained, “NASENI is uniquely positioned as the only purpose-built agency of the Federal Government dedicated to domesticating both capital and consumer technology.”

The agency has adopted what Mr. Halilu calls the 3Cs principles: Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialization, partnering with both public and private sectors to not only research but also ensure that products reach end-users. “We have identified our partners and leveraged existing technology to produce competitive, market-driven products,” Mr. Halilu added, inviting investors to support the industrialization efforts of the country.

Further achievements of NASENI, as shared by Mr. Halilu, include the development of various digital platforms such as the NASENI Proposal Evaluation Portal, NASENI Growth Hacker, and NASENI ERP among others, which underscore the agency’s commitment to integrating advanced technology in its operations.

This development signifies a promising advancement in Nigeria’s efforts toward technological self-sufficiency and economic sustainability.
