Sep 26, 2023

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Halilu, has urged the agency’s management team to generate innovative ideas on how NASENI can effectively contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s key priorities.

These priorities include the significant transition from petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to alternative fuels in order to alleviate the cost of living for the Nigerian population.

Mr. Halilu made this call as he commenced the process of gathering insights from the Managing Directors of NASENI’s ten Development Institutes, located in Enugu, Minna, Awka, Okene, Nnewi, Kano, Jalingo, Akure, Ilesha, and Nasarawa. Additionally, he inaugurated a Staff Welfare Committee to address the well-being of NASENI employees.

According to Halilu, “Our Institutes are the engines of NASENI’s innovation and these briefings by each Institute are critical as we work together to craft the future of NASENI, as it relates to delivering on the President’s socio-economic agenda.”

Aside from Managing Directors speech, Team Leads overseeing various NASENI projects, and the Research Directors of the Agency, presented their respective projects and initiatives to the EVC.
These briefings commenced on Monday, September 18, 2023, and serve as a prelude to the EVC’s planned tour of NASENI facilities at institutes, scheduled to begin in October.

On Tuesday, September 19, the EVC/CEO inaugurated a committee to address staff welfare concerns. This initiative aligns with his commitment, upon assuming office, to make NASENI an attractive employer within the public sector in Nigeria.

The EVC entrusted this committee, composed exclusively of middle-level and junior NASENI staff, with the task of formulating a comprehensive Human Resources (HR) enhancement plan for the Agency.

He emphasized the pivotal role played by junior staff in NASENI’s operations, acknowledging their significant contributions and need for special attention and support.

To conclude the week, the EVC/CEO paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday, September 22. During their meeting, discussions centered on opportunities for collaboration in advancing research related to methanol production, lithium mining, and natural medicine.

The EVC/CEO expressed mutual interest in jointly commercializing existing research outcomes, emphasizing the strong partnership between NASENI and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

Also, Halilu engaged with a young Nigerian innovator, Mustapha Gajibo, based in Maiduguri, Borno State. Gajibo specializes in the conversion of petrol-fired vehicles to operate on gas and solar energy.

The EVC/CEO commended the potential of young Nigerians in the field of science and technology, stating NASENI’s commitment to being a part of such inspiring stories from every corner of the country.
