NASENI Commences Virtual ASPEN Plus Training For Enhanced Renewable Energy Solutions

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has kicked off a week-long intensive training on ASPEN Plus, a sophisticated process simulation software, at its Virtual Manufacturing Lab in Abuja. This hybrid training, which also extends across NASENI’s Development Institutes, signals a major advancement in the agency’s efforts to boost technical capacity in renewable energy and engineering design.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Chika Ezeanyanso, Deputy Director of the Nano Science Department and representative of NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), underscored the agency’s commitment to equipping its workforce with cutting-edge knowledge. “This training reaffirms NASENI’s dedication to fostering innovation, particularly in renewable energy sectors such as biogas and engineering design,” she remarked, expressing gratitude to the EVC for supporting this transformative initiative.

The training comes on the heels of the recently concluded Biogas and Biomethanol Plant Design Training, which NASENI organized in partnership with SRH Berlin University. According to Dr. Ezeanyanso, this ASPEN Plus training is a strategic follow-up aimed at deepening the technical expertise of 50 NASENI engineers and biochemists who were part of the earlier program. The knowledge gained will allow the participants to design more efficient biogas plants and contribute to Nigeria’s renewable energy goals.

Engr. Anas Yazid Balarabe, Special Adviser to the EVC on Science and Engineering Commercialization, also addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of linking research to commercialization. “The tools and techniques you will acquire here will not only drive innovation but also facilitate the transformation of research outcomes into marketable products that meet Nigeria’s energy needs,” he said.

The training is part of NASENI’s broader initiative to enhance its staff’s capabilities in process design, optimization, and simulation using ASPEN Plus. Participants are expected to utilize these advanced skills to develop more sustainable energy solutions, further positioning NASENI at the forefront of Nigeria’s transition to renewable energy.

The training is a key component of NASENI’s mission to support sustainable development and national energy security, as it works to meet the country’s growing demand for renewable energy solutions.
