The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has reaffirmed his commitment to making NASENI the leading innovation and technology transfer agency in Nigeria. Speaking yesterday to mark his one year in office, Mr. Halilu highlighted the agency’s accomplishments and laid out his vision for its future.

Reflecting on his first year as CEO, Halilu stated that he had promised in 2023 to move NASENI’s products from the development shelves to the market. “One year after, it is a case of a promise made and kept,” he said. He emphasized that NASENI’s focus on delivering market-ready technologies has borne fruit, with over 36 products now available to the corporate market.

“These are just the first steps,” Halilu added. “This is just one year for me, and it’s another opportunity to say that we are going to do more. We are going to have a better NASENI, focusing on the socio-economic development of our nation and contributing to the fulfilment of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Among the products NASENI has introduced over the past year are solar irrigation pumps, electric vehicles (EVs), Android smartphones, solar home systems, smart prepaid meters, power stoves, solar street lamps, laptops, and electric tricycles. Halilu highlighted that all of these innovations were developed through collaborations with strategic partners and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), ensuring a strong local content presence.

“We collaborate, we do technology transfer, we domesticate and commercialize together,” he said, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to working with partners to bring locally adapted technologies to market.

Although NASENI is currently focused on the corporate market, Halilu revealed plans to establish a showroom where customers can purchase these products at the retail level. “We are in the process of setting that up soon,” he noted.

With products ranging from solar irrigation pumps to electric cars and solar-powered street lamps, NASENI is positioning itself as a key player in advancing Nigeria’s technological and economic landscape. Halilu’s leadership over the past year has solidified NASENI’s role in fostering innovation and making technology accessible to support the nation’s socio-economic development.
