In a strategic move to intensify the fight against human trafficking and gender-based violence within the maritime and logistics sectors, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the MMS Woman of Fortune Hall of Fame (WoFHoF) Initiative.
The agreement outlines collaborative efforts in addressing human trafficking by sea, cross-border transportation, and tackling sex and gender-based violence in work and business environments, particularly within the maritime industry.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, the Director-General of NAPTIP, Hajia Binta Lami Adamu Bello, expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that the NGO possesses the competence and commitment to support the agency’s mandate.
“We are confident in the MMS WoFHoF Initiative’s capacity to deliver impactful outcomes. This partnership is a step forward in strengthening our collective efforts to eradicate trafficking and safeguard vulnerable populations, especially women and children,” she said.
Leading the NGO’s delegation to the event, Hajia Lami Tumaka, a board member of the MMS WoFHoF Initiative, thanked NAPTIP for the trust placed in the organization. She called on NAPTIP staff to fully support the implementation of the agreement to ensure its success.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of MMS WoFHoF Initiative, Mr. Kingsley Anaroke, encouraged the agency to take full advantage of the NGO’s pool of human resources. He emphasized the importance of building a sustainable and socially impactful brand that aligns with both partners’ goals.
The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the fight against trafficking and gender-related abuses in critical sectors of the economy, particularly those often overlooked in policy implementation.
