The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 81 Division Chapter, organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme on Saturday, underscoring the importance of solidarity and early detection in the fight against breast cancer. Held at the 65 Battalion Officers’ Mess, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos, the event gathered participants for an informative 3-kilometer awareness walk and interactive sessions with medical professionals.
Themed “No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone,” the program included a walk from 65 Battalion to Adeola Odekun, giving attendees the opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals and gain valuable insights into breast cancer prevention and care.
Mrs. Zainab Aliyu Farouk Mijinyawa, Chairperson of the 81 Division NAOWA, welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of community support in battling breast cancer. “Breast cancer is not just an illness; it’s a journey that requires the support of family and community,” she said, encouraging unity in addressing the health challenge.
In a lecture titled “Understanding Breast Cancer: The Importance of Early Detection, Treatment Options, and Risk Factors”, Major AP Shima of the 81 Division Hospital educated participants on types, risk factors, and signs of breast cancer. She highlighted the critical role of self-examination, asserting, “No one would die from breast cancer if detected and treated promptly.”
