The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reiterated its dedication to accountability and financial prudence as critical components of its operational effectiveness. Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), made this affirmation during the 2024 NAF Finance Seminar held at the MD Umar Blue Room, Headquarters NAF.

In his keynote address, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized the importance of efficient resource management to meet the demands of modern air power. He underscored that accountability in financial dealings is crucial for building trust both within the Air Force and with the Nigerian public. The CAS called on all officers, regardless of rank, to embrace financial accountability and contribute innovative solutions to enhance the NAF’s operational capabilities.

“The effective management of financial resources is not just an operational necessity but a moral obligation,” Air Marshal Abubakar said. He commended the Accounts and Budget Branch for organizing the seminar and encouraged participants to actively engage with the resource persons and share their experiences to improve the NAF’s financial management systems.

The 2024 Finance Seminar, themed “Fostering a Culture of Accountability in the Management of NAF Finances in Support of Contemporary Air Power Demands,” aims to boost the professional capacity of NAF finance personnel. Air Vice Marshal CU Nwagwu, Chief of Accounts and Budget (CAB), highlighted the seminar’s goal of promoting transparency, ethical behavior, and optimal use of resources. He expressed gratitude to all attendees, including Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, who delivered the keynote lecture.

In her address, Mrs. Jafiya discussed the intersection of financial management and security, emphasizing that a stable security environment is essential for economic development and effective public financial management. She stressed that peace and development are interlinked, and effective engagement between the military and public financial management is vital for national progress.

The seminar, which spans two days, features a keynote lecture and three presentations, followed by discussions to derive actionable insights. Distinguished guests included Permanent Secretaries from various ministries, the Auditor General for the Federation, and senior officers from Defence and Service Headquarters.

The outcomes of the seminar are expected to further strengthen the NAF’s financial systems and enhance its ability to address contemporary security challenges effectively.
