NAF Highlights Role of Technical Education In National Security As AFIT Graduates 432

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technical education as a crucial tool in sustaining its contributions to national security. This was emphasized by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, who highlighted the importance of skilled manpower in securing Nigeria’s airspace and territory. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 432 officers, airmen, and airwomen from various military courses at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna, Air Marshal Abubakar outlined the central role of AFIT in enhancing the NAF’s technical capabilities.

Air Marshal Abubakar praised AFIT’s dedication to producing technically proficient graduates, noting that their expertise is essential for the NAF’s strategy of adapting to an evolving technological defense landscape. He stated, “AFIT’s commitment to developing top-tier human capital equips graduates to tackle critical challenges, not only for Nigeria but also for allied African nations.” The CAS commended the institute’s focus on practical-oriented learning, which supports the NAF’s fleet modernization and reduces dependence on foreign technical training, thus conserving national resources.

Highlighting the operational significance of AFIT’s graduates, the CAS noted their role in maintaining the airworthiness of newly acquired aircraft. He revealed that the NAF has taken delivery of 12 new aircraft, with 50 more expected in the near future, marking a significant expansion in the Service’s capabilities. Air Marshal Abubakar also discussed the importance of predictive maintenance and encouraged the graduates to contribute to indigenous military manufacturing through research and development (R&D). He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of the NAF and the Armed Forces and acknowledged the AFIT Governing Council’s role in the institute’s successes.

Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Sani Rabe, Commandant of AFIT, reiterated the institute’s commitment to providing high-quality technical and logistics training to meet the NAF’s manpower needs. He spoke of ongoing efforts to expand the institution and improve the quality of training, while also addressing the challenges faced by AFIT.

The graduation ceremony celebrated AFIT’s legacy as a multidisciplinary center of excellence. Established in 1977, the institute has continued to equip the aviation, aerospace, and defense sectors with highly skilled personnel. The event, attended by dignitaries, families, and well-wishers, marked a proud moment for the NAF as it continues to build its technical capabilities through the development of human capital.
