The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to defending Nigeria’s democratic institutions and values. Speaking during a visit to Gombe State on 10 August 2024, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that it is the constitutional responsibility of the NAF, alongside other military services, to protect and reinforce the nation’s democratic foundations.
During his meeting with Gombe State Governor, His Excellency Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya, Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted the crucial role state governments play in maintaining security. He assured the governor of the Armed Forces’ and other security agencies’ unwavering support in safeguarding the freedom and rights of all Nigerians, ensuring that the rule of law is respected in Gombe State.
Commending Governor Yahaya’s leadership, Air Marshal Abubakar praised the governor’s achievements in infrastructural development, healthcare, and education. “Your commitment to these sectors has led to significant progress in the quality of life for Gombe State residents and has positioned the state as a leader in ease of doing business in Nigeria for two consecutive years,” the CAS noted.
Addressing recent unrest in the state, Air Marshal Abubakar acknowledged the challenges posed by the protests, which were marred by violence and destruction. In response, the NAF deployed reconnaissance aircraft and Regiment Forces to assist in restoring order, working alongside other security services to quell the unrest.
Governor Yahaya, in his response, recognized the trying times the nation is facing but commended the NAF and other security agencies for their effective response in maintaining peace. He specifically lauded the swift action of the NAF 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group in controlling the looting and theft that occurred during the protests. The governor also committed to providing additional infrastructure support to enhance the operational capacity of the 109 CRG.
The press release was signed by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force.
