The Oleh Police Station has recently responded to a trending video that was posted on social media platforms by Pararan Mock News, a well-known social media influencer.
The video falsely portrayed the circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention of one Endurance Edwin, prompting the Oleh Police Command to provide accurate information and dispel the misleading narrative.
Endurance Edwin was apprehended by a team of Dragon operatives during a routine stop and search operation at the Idu roundabout in Oleh on November 9, 2019. A group of individuals, including Chief Edewor Henry, the Vice President of the Olomoro community, were observed pursuing Edwin. The police intervened promptly and took all parties involved to the Oleh Police Station.
Upon thorough investigation, it was revealed that Edwin was allegedly involved in tampering with electrical lines and cables. The investigation was based on statements from witnesses, including Godday Anor, a member of the Olomoro community, Chief Edewor Henry, and Richmond Olokpedge, the head of B.E.D.C Isoko branch.
Their testimonies corroborated the claim that Edwin was seen vandalizing a transformer in the community, an act that was reported by Godday Anor. Edwin confessed in his statement that he intended to steal cables from the transformer, which he typically sold to scrap dealers.
The case proceeded to the Magistrate Court in Oleh on November 25, 2019. Subsequently, the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) reviewed the case and concluded on May 8, 2020, that there was a prima facie case against Edwin for conspiracy to commit a felony by tampering with electrical lines and cables. The DPP also ordered the transfer of the case from the Oleh Magistrate Court to the Federal High Court in Warri.
Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass psc emphasized the importance of accurate reporting by social media influencers, urging them to verify facts before sharing information. He urged members of the public, including Edwin’s family, to engage with the legal process if they have concerns about the ongoing prosecution.
