In the 81 Division Area of Responsibility, the troops of the 192 Battalion Nigerian Army achieved another successful operation on Tuesday, 18th July 2023, when they intercepted a suspected international drug syndicate attempting to smuggle a truckload of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) towards Sango Otta in Ogun State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a thorough stop and search operation along Ajilete Road in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

During this operation, they impounded a suspicious truck without registration number, which was found to be loaded with 397 wraps of a substance believed to be marijuana.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the illegal substance had been transported from Ghana through Benin Republic via Igholo-Idiroko, en route to Sango Otta.

Two suspects have been identified as Mr. Matthew Edegbe, a national of Benin Republic, and Mr. Joshua Dansu from Idiroko. Both are currently assisting in the ongoing investigations.

Among the items recovered from the suspects were an Infinix and Itel phone, one iPhone, a Benin Republic National Identification card, a driver’s license belonging to one George Benyagbe, and the sum of Seven Thousand Naira (N7000) only. The truck’s registration number was also discovered as (T 1826 LA Lagos), which had been detached and concealed in the vehicle to avoid identification.

The suspects, along with the vehicle and all exhibits, are now in custody and will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command for further legal action.

It’s worth mentioning that just a few days earlier, on Saturday, 15th July 2023, the same Battalion intercepted a truck carrying over 20,000 cartridges of ammunition destined for Anambra state.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has expressed his commendation for the troops’ dedication and vigilance. He urged them to sustain their efforts to continue eradicating criminal activities from the country.
