Nigerian Maritime Journalists have organized an award dinner to honor the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his outstanding contributions to the maritime industry. The event, scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, by 6 p.m., will be chaired by Prince Olayiwola Shittu, a former National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and Chairman of Skelas Group.

The highly anticipated gathering is expected to attract key figures from the maritime sector, including chief executives of government agencies, prominent freight forwarders, top shipowners, terminal operators, shipping lines, and regulators. The event will recognize Adeniyi as the **”Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024″** in acknowledgment of his exceptional leadership and contributions since assuming office.

Maritime journalists from various media platforms, including print, electronic, and online, came together to initiate the recognition. The decision to celebrate Adeniyi’s achievements was a unanimous agreement among journalists covering the maritime sector, cutting across different professional associations and independent reporters.

Since his appointment as Comptroller-General, Adeniyi has been credited with several landmark achievements, including record-breaking revenue collection, intensified anti-smuggling operations, enhanced trade facilitation, strengthened national security measures, improved staff welfare, inter-agency collaboration, infrastructural development, and advancements in information and communication technology. His tenure has also emphasized corporate social responsibility initiatives, further solidifying his reputation as a transformational leader in the industry.
