In a significant victory for Nigeria’s anti-smuggling efforts, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Area Command, along with other security agencies, intercepted a large cache of potentially illegal pharmaceuticals at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The seizure occurred at 01:00 hrs today when Customs officers, in a coordinated operation with NDLEA, NAFDAC, and NQS personnel, conducted a thorough examination of a passenger’s luggage arriving from Cairo on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET941. The security check led to the discovery of 241 empty packages and 80 pieces of OTRAVIN nasal drops.
The involvement of NAFDAC highlights the concern over the pharmaceuticals, which have been detained pending further investigation. The swift action underlines the agencies’ collective commitment to safeguarding public health and security.
Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, the area controller, praised the operation, attributing its success to the steadfast support and leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and the collaborative spirit among the participating agencies.
“This operation is a clear indication of what we can achieve together in protecting our borders and ensuring the safety of our citizens,” said Chana. He assured that the Kano/Jigawa Area Command would continue its rigorous efforts in combating smuggling and upholding national security.
The Kano/Jigawa Command reaffirms its dedication to maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s borders and enhancing inter-agency cooperation to thwart any smuggling activities that threaten the country’s welfare.
