League of Maritime Editors And Publishers Elects New Executive, Remi Itie Emerges As President

The League of Maritime Editors and Publishers has elected a new executive committee to lead the organization for the next two years. In a keenly contested election held on Thursday at the Ikeja Airport Hotel during the League’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Mrs. Remi Itie, Publisher of Pathway Magazine, emerged as the new President.

Mrs. Itie won the presidential race against Eddie Iroha, marking a significant moment in the League’s history. Other members of the newly elected executive include Mr. Friday Odoemena as Vice President, Mr. Felix Kumuyi as Secretary, Chief Okey Iroegbu as Assistant Secretary, Mr. Tony Ohakwe as Treasurer, Mr. Godwin Obi as Financial Secretary, Mr. Shola Mekusi as Welfare Officer, and Mr. Francis Ugwoke as Public Relations Officer.

The position of Financial Secretary was also contested, with Mr. Godwin Obi securing the role against Mr. Eguono Odjegba. The remaining positions were filled unopposed.

The election process was overseen by two senior maritime journalists, Mr. Funso Olojo and Chief Innocent Chukwu, who served as Returning Officers.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Itie expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in her and pledged to serve the association to the best of her abilities. She extended a hand of fellowship to all members, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in making the association even greater in the coming years.

Francis Ugwoke, the Public Relations Officer, confirmed the results and reiterated the League’s commitment to advancing the interests of maritime journalism in Nigeria.
