LBS 2023 International Sustainability Conference To Galvanize Leadership Action For Sustainable Development Through Business

The Lagos Business School Sustainability Centre (LBSSC) is excited to announce the highly anticipated 2023 International Sustainability Conference (ISC), co-convened by the Lagos Business School and IHS Nigeria Ltd. This virtual conference is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm (West Africa Time, GMT+1).

The annual ISC is a thought leadership and knowledge-sharing forum supported by Nestlé Nigeria PLC, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and the Shared Value Africa Initiative (SVAI). It brings together global business leaders, sustainability advocates, thought leaders, academics, and professionals from diverse sectors and countries to explore and discuss sustainability and its integration into business practices.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘The Leadership Imperative for Sustainable Development.’ The sessions will highlight best practices, particularly from the private sector, in leading and shaping businesses, economies, communities, markets, and sectors through the integration of sustainability principles and practices.

The ISC will also showcase how these actions have contributed to the development and achievement of policy priorities, especially related to the Africa Agenda 2063 Goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The conference is not just an ordinary gathering but serves as the flagship dialogue-to-action platform of LBSSC. It unites key multi-sectoral players and stakeholders to discuss emerging business models and initiatives that mainstream sustainability into end-to-end business operations, benefiting communities, people, the environment, and the organizations that adopt these practices.

The keynote speaker for this year’s ISC is Michael Salvatico, Head of Asia, Pacific, Middle East, and Africa ESG Solutions at S & P Global Sustainable1. The conference will also host panel discussions on the sub-themes of ‘Leading for Climate Resilience Towards Sustainable Business Performance’ and ‘Business Models Innovating for Shared Value.’ The panelists will share insights, lessons, and recommendations for advancing the sustainable development agenda for Africa and the world.

Mrs. Orevaoghene Atanya, the Head of Sustainability at Lagos Business School, stated, “The ISC has built an international following as a catalyst for thought leadership and insights for business and community transformation, and this year’s edition promises to be no exception. This year, the conference will delve into the crucial role of leadership in charting a course and galvanizing critical stakeholders to deliver tangible business and impact outcomes that can fast-track sustainable development objectives, impacting the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profits.”

Prof Chris Ogbechie, Dean of Lagos Business School and pioneer Director of the LBS Sustainability Centre, encouraged business leaders to participate in the 2023 ISC. He stressed the importance of leadership in delivering organizational strategies and bottom-line targets through sustainable business practices, ultimately benefiting both business performance and society.

Key features of the ISC 2023 conference will include a keynote address, engaging panel discussions, and presentations of best practice cases. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, share insights, and connect from the convenience of their computers or mobile devices in this cross-national and multisectoral dialogue.
