In honor of this year’s Id el Kabir festivities, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is urging residents to properly bag and containerize their waste to maintain a clean environment.

In an official statement, the Executive Director of Finance at LAWMA, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, reassured the public that comprehensive measures had been implemented to guarantee a clean and hygienic environment throughout the celebration. He further emphasized that Public-Private Partnership (PSP) operators had been diligently assigned to maintain a round-the-clock schedule for city-wide cleanup efforts.

Residents were strongly advised to refrain from engaging in any form of indiscriminate waste dumping, including on road medians, canals, uncompleted buildings, or any unauthorized locations. Mr. Adebiyi assured the public that LAWMA would intensify its efforts to ensure that the festivities were observed in a clean and healthy environment.

Adebiyi said, “LAWMA is determined to combat improper waste disposal practices that contribute to environmental degradation within the metropolis, especially during the forthcoming Id el Kabir celebration.

PSP operators have been mandated to provide efficient services, while LAWMA will provide backup services in areas where noticeable service gaps exist. In addition to that, district and operational heads have been on 24/7 operational duties, aimed at supporting the operation of
service providers across the state”.

He announced that the Authority would release the names and contact details of the management team members responsible for monitoring the environment throughout the festive season. He encouraged residents to use the numbers provided or call LAWMA’s toll-free lines, 07080601020 or 617, for any waste management concerns.

The LAWMA Executive Director also emphasized the importance of cautious driving to ensure the safety of sanitation workers who would be diligently cleaning the roads and highways during the festive period.

Furthermore, he expressed warm greetings to the residents and kindly requested them to refrain from engaging in activities that could have adverse effects on the environment during the celebrations.
