The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) held its annual Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Thanksgiving service at its headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, celebrating God’s goodness and blessings throughout 2024.
The event brought together LAWMA’s management team, staff, neighbors, friends, and well-wishers in a spirit of gratitude and reflection.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, expressed heartfelt thanks to God for His mercies and the preservation of the workforce despite the year’s challenges. He remarked, “Today is not a day for speeches but a day for praises and thanksgiving. I appreciate God for His mercies and blessings upon the staff of LAWMA, and I pray He will continue to preserve us as we dedicate our time to service.”
Dr. Gbadegesin also acknowledged the dedication and support of the staff, urging them to maintain their commitment to the organization’s mission. He extended warm wishes to Lagos residents for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, encouraging them to actively support LAWMA’s efforts in keeping the city clean and livable.
The Executive Director of Finance, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the safety and well-being of the staff throughout the year. He also commended Dr. Gbadegesin for his leadership and initiatives in improving waste management across Lagos State.
Themed “With a Grateful Heart,” the service featured a sermon by the chapel president, Mr. Olawumi Oluwaseyi, who emphasized the importance of gratitude and reliance on God’s grace for protection and guidance.
Scripture readings formed a significant part of the event, with Dr. Gbadegesin taking the first reading from Genesis 3:8-15 and Mr. Adebiyi delivering the second from Genesis 22:15-18. Other key readings were done by various LAWMA management staff, including Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, Director of Public Affairs; Mr. Adewumi Adetona, Head of Advocacy; and Dr. Essien Nsuabia, Head of Waste Management Development Research, among others.
The program also featured inspirational performances, including a special ministration by guest minister Sarah Apekeola, hymns and songs by the Emmanuel Chapel choir, and a choreographic presentation by the chapel’s children.
The event concluded on a high note, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to service, gratitude, and environmental stewardship as it looks ahead to the new year.
