As the Id el Kabir festivities approach, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to ensure proper disposal of waste, particularly animal waste, during and after the celebrations.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, announced that comprehensive measures are being implemented to maintain a clean and hygienic environment throughout the period. “We have put in place a robust system to manage waste effectively during Id el Kabir. Our goal is to ensure that the celebration is enjoyed in a clean and safe environment. We are working tirelessly to ensure this,” he stated.

Gbadegesin emphasized LAWMA’s dedication to combating improper waste disposal practices, which can lead to environmental degradation. He urged residents to use only designated PSP operators for waste management and avoid cart pushers, whose indiscriminate dumping undermines the agency’s efforts.

“We urge residents to cooperate with us by bagging and containerising waste generated during and after this period for seamless evacuation by PSP operators. Cart pushers often dispose of waste indiscriminately, causing environmental harm. We cannot condone their activities, to keep the city clean and safe,” Gbadegesin noted.

Additionally, Gbadegesin warned against dumping waste on road medians, canals, uncompleted buildings, and other unauthorized locations. He assured residents that LAWMA would provide backup services in areas with service gaps to ensure effective waste management.

He also advised motorists to drive cautiously during the festive period to protect the lives of sanitation workers performing duties on streets and major roads across the city.

Wishing all residents a happy celebration, Gbadegesin encouraged them to contact LAWMA’s toll-free lines at 080000LAWMA (08000052962), 07080601020, and 617 for prompt assistance.
