The educational initiative of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA Academy, has successfully reached and sensitized over 4,258 pupils from various public schools across the state through its school enlightenment and advocacy program, which commenced last month. This revelation was made by LAWMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, following the recent visitation of the school advocacy team to schools in Eti-Osa.
Represented by the Director of LAWMA Academy, Training, and Development, Mrs. Bola Adewunmi, Dr. Gbadegesin emphasized that the program aimed to instill waste management education in children, fostering a sense of environmental sustainability.
The initiative utilized interactive sessions, educational materials, and engaging activities to educate pupils on crucial aspects of waste management, including waste segregation, recycling, composting, and the significance of maintaining a clean environment.
Dr. Gbadegesin stated, “Equipping young minds with the knowledge and skills to champion environmental sustainability is crucial. Through LAWMA Academy, we are engaging future generations to actively participate in responsible waste management, fostering positive change within their communities.”
Highlighting the importance of incorporating environmental education into school curricula, he emphasized that LAWMA Academy’s program provides valuable resources and instills a sense of responsibility among students, making them active contributors to a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
