The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has provided assurance to the residents of Lagos that their traffic personnel will be present in full force to efficiently and effectively handle traffic management before, during, and after the festive period.

In an official press statement issued by the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, it was mentioned that Mr. Oreagba, the head of LASTMA, expressed this commitment during a strategic meeting held at the LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi with Comptrollers, Commanders, and Zonal Heads.

Mr. Oreagba acknowledged that the Eld-el-kabir celebrations are typically characterized by a significant increase in both human and vehicular movements. Therefore, he emphasized the need for additional efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the Lagos metropolis.

According to him: “All motorists are urged to maintain speed limits as they embark on their journeys into, within and outside Lagos. Entry and exit points into Lagos will be fully manned by our officers for adequate control and management of traffic. Major entry/exit roads in Lagos, like Lagos-Ibadan, Lagos-Abeokuta, Lagos-Badagry, Lekki-Epe Expressways and Lagos-Ikorodu-Sagamu Highway would be adequately covered by our personnel for smooth and seamless traffic flow. Major road intersections would not be left out in our strategic coverage to ensure free traffic flow”.

The General Manager emphasized that LASTMA officers will be extensively present at all major road intersections, conducting regular and consistent patrols. Their focus will be particularly on notorious traffic flashpoints. The General Manager urged all road users to strictly abide by traffic laws at all times. Doing so is crucial not only for accident prevention but also to avoid unnecessary arrests and prosecution.

“Everybody prays to experience a joyous season. However, to be alive to witness the season and even beyond the season, we must, therefore, be moderate in the celebration of the season. Do not drink and drive, don’t endanger yourself and other road users while on the road, as the law will not be spared in dealing with errant road users who want to infringe on other people’s rights to use the roads safely”, he asserted.

Oreagba emphasized the importance of lane discipline and adherence to traffic rules and regulations as outlined in the traffic law of Lagos State, stressing that any acts of indiscipline or unruly behavior by motorists and road users would not be tolerated, as these are essential measures to achieve a traffic-free Lagos.

The General Manageralso expressed gratitude to Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for providing modern Traffic Management Solutions (TMS) handheld cameras, which have significantly improved traffic management and control throughout Lagos.
