The Lagos State Government has terminated the employment of six officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) following the recommendations of the Personnel Management Board, as endorsed by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC). The disciplinary measures, which were implemented in response to severe misconduct and inefficiencies, were officially communicated to the officers at LASTMA’s Headquarters in Oshodi.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the enforcement of the Personnel Management Board’s recommendations. He emphasized that the disciplinary actions were taken in strict accordance with the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
Mr. Bakare-Oki reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to improving its operations and called on Lagos residents to collaborate with the agency by providing constructive feedback, as well as reporting any misconduct observed among officers. “This is an ongoing exercise aimed at purging the Agency of errant officers,” he stated, adding that another Personnel Management Board session will soon address additional cases involving indicted officers.
The General Manager also reminded road users in Lagos of the importance of complying with traffic regulations, noting that violations would be met with penalties, including fines, as enforced by Lagos Mobile Courts under legal provisions. He stressed that adherence to traffic laws is a key component of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s “Greater Lagos” vision, particularly the THEMES Plus Development Agenda, which prioritizes traffic management and transportation.
Mr. Bakare-Oki assured the public that LASTMA remains committed to addressing complaints impartially and promptly. Citizens are encouraged to report any concerns through the agency’s toll-free hotline at 080000527862 or by visiting the Walk-In Complaint Centre at LASTMA’s Headquarters.
The General Manager also reaffirmed LASTMA’s dedication to upholding the rights of motorists on Lagos roads and urged compliance with the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law of 2018.
