In a significant operation, the Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued two teenagers who had been abducted from Benue State and were about to be trafficked to Ghana. The police arrested two suspects, Tewase Peter, 25, and Ternugwa Paul, 26, in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, Lagos, where the victims were being held.
The victims, identified only as Precious, 16, and Agera, 15, were taken from their home while their mother was away at the market. The breakthrough came when a Good Samaritan, finding Precious’s phone unattended, responded to the mother’s call and informed her of the children’s dire situation.
Acting swiftly on the tip, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department raided the location where the teenagers were held and managed to rescue them without harm. Preliminary investigations revealed the suspects’ plan to transport the victims to Ghana to engage in forced labor.
The Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to track down all individuals involved in this transnational trafficking network. The suspects will be arraigned upon the completion of the investigations.
This rescue underscores the continued vigilance of the Lagos State Police Command in combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable populations in society.
