The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command to enhance security and improve operational synergy across agencies.
During a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the agencies emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation in tackling security challenges and facilitating the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
CP Jimoh described the police as a critical agency in internal security and commended the longstanding relationship with both the Immigration and Customs services. He assured them of continuous collaboration to ensure a safer Lagos.
“We have a lot of responsibilities together in ensuring that Lagos, the Centre of Excellence, remains secure. The cooperation between us has been excellent, and I want to assure you that we will strengthen this partnership for maximum productivity. Lagos is the gateway to the nation, with its seaports, airports, and land borders, making our collaboration even more crucial,” he stated.
Lagos State NIS Comptroller, David Oluwole Adebambo, highlighted the historical ties between Immigration and the Police, stressing the importance of working together to manage migration and border security effectively. He explained recent technological advancements introduced to enhance border surveillance, including the e-border system with real-time monitoring and the use of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Centre (BATTIC) to supervise border activities.
Similarly, Customs Area Controller of the Murtala Mohammed Area Command, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, emphasized the need for sustained synergy, especially in tackling security threats such as arms smuggling. He cited recent seizures of military-grade equipment and underscored the role of intelligence-sharing between agencies in preventing security breaches.
The meeting reinforced the shared responsibility of security agencies in maintaining law and order, with officials agreeing to deepen cooperation and ensure that government policies, particularly on security and business facilitation, are effectively implemented.
