In a heartfelt message, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has extended his warm wishes and gratitude to the troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in tackling the rising security challenges across the nation.
As the Eid-el-Kabir festivities unfold in 2023, the COAS took the opportunity to express his appreciation and convey his goodwill to the troops and their families.
Acknowledging the protection and guidance received from the Almighty God, General Lagbaja emphasized the significance of Eid-el-Kabir, a festival symbolizing sacrifice and submission to the divine will. Drawing inspiration from the acts of Prophet Abraham and Prophet Muhammed, he highlighted the festival’s reminder of the supreme sacrifices made by officers and soldiers of the NA daily, ensuring the preservation of the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The COAS further described Eid-el-Kabir as a time embodying values such as courage, selfless service, discipline, integrity, respect for others, and loyalty, which lie at the core of the Nigerian Army.
General Lagbaja called upon the troops to utilize the spiritual essence of the occasion to offer prayers for the Nigerian Army’s success in combating security challenges across all theaters of operation in the country.
Assuming his position as the 23rd COAS recently, General Lagbaja emphasized that his appointment serves as a catalyst for change and a means to make a difference in fulfilling the constitutional mandate of the Nigerian Army.
His command philosophy aims to transform the NA into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force, enabling the fulfillment of their responsibilities within a joint environment.
The COAS commended the soldiers currently deployed in operations both domestically and abroad for their selflessness. He expressed unwavering confidence in the troops, having witnessed their dedication and sacrifices throughout his career.
Lagbaja emphasized the troops’ commitment to combating the complex and unpredictable security threats faced by the nation, working closely with sister services like the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
Assuring his leadership and determination, General Lagbaja pledged to build upon the achievements of the Nigerian Army, ensuring the elimination of current security distractions.
He called upon the troops to remain steadfast, resilient, disciplined, and patriotic in their fight against the adversaries of the nation.
The COAS extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the confidence placed in him and the Nigerian Army. He reaffirmed the unwavering loyalty of NA officers and soldiers to the constitution and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
