The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Credentials Screening Committee has officially announced the positions open for contest in the forthcoming 2024 council elections. The positions available are:
1. Chairmanship Position
2. Vice Chairmanship Position
3. Secretaryship Position
4. Assistant Secretaryship Position
5. Treasurership Position
6. Financial Secretaryship Position
7. Auditor
The committee also disclosed the non-refundable nomination fees for these positions. Candidates vying for the roles of Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer are required to pay a fee of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦200,000.00) each. Meanwhile, aspirants for the positions of Vice-Chairman, Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary, and Auditor are to pay One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦150,000.00) each.
Interested candidates should contact the Secretary of the Credentials Screening Committee to purchase the Nomination/Expression of Interest Form for their desired position. The committee has advised all aspirants to take note of the dates for the purchase and submission of the forms as per the timetable previously released.
The announcement has already sparked reactions among members, with many voicing concerns over the high fees. Calls for a review of the nomination fees have been made, emphasizing that the current economic conditions make these costs prohibitive for many potential candidates.
