On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Abuja hosted a formal dinner in honor of Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi and his management team, highlighting the deepening of bilateral relations and collaborative efforts between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Korean authorities.
CGC Adeniyi attended the event with senior officers, including Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) of Human Resource Development, Greg Itotoh; DCG of Tariff and Trade, Caroline Niagwan; and DCG of ICT-Modernisation, Kikelomo Adeola. During his address, Adeniyi expressed gratitude for Korea’s commitment to partnership and praised the collaborative progress with the Korean Embassy, emphasizing how these ties have enhanced NCS’s capability in adopting advanced technologies.
“It is due to our dedicated partnerships that the NCS is now engaged in data analytics programmes, in alignment with World Customs Organization standards,” Adeniyi stated. He noted that these analytics have empowered the NCS to make data-driven decisions through predictive, descriptive, and prescriptive insights, a capacity strengthened by learning from global leaders such as Korean Customs.
Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Kim Pankym, commended Adeniyi and his team for their commitment to modernizing customs operations. “We are honoured by the Comptroller-General’s presence here tonight, and we look forward to further strengthening ties with the Nigeria Customs Service,” Ambassador Pankym said, underscoring the Embassy’s support for NCS’s growth and modernization.
Deputy Comptroller-General Itotoh expressed appreciation for Korea’s active engagement in NCS initiatives. “The Embassy’s support and willingness to partner with us are instrumental in driving our Service to greater heights. We look forward to continued growth through these collaborations,” he remarked.
The evening celebrated the strengthening bonds between Nigeria and Korea, reinforcing Korea’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s customs modernization and capacity-building initiatives.
