Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Aimionowane, psc, mnips, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families affected by a tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred on November 3, 2023, along the Koko-Yauri road.
The accident involved a Volvo DAF truck bearing registration number KWA 230 SKK, driven by Alhaji Sule, a 40-year-old resident of Gada LGA in Sokoto State. The truck, loaded with passengers and bags of beans on a journey from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State, encountered the accident at Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA.
Tragically, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to a somersault. This devastating incident resulted in Twenty-One (21) passengers sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Upon receiving the report, a team of dedicated Policemen from the Shanga Division swiftly responded to the scene. They provided assistance by evacuating the injured victims to the General Hospital in Shanga for prompt medical treatment. A medical doctor at the hospital confirmed that Eleven (11) individuals had sadly lost their lives, while the remaining victims are currently receiving medical care and showing positive signs of recovery.
In light of this heart-wrenching event, CP Chris Aimionowane, psc, mnips, offered his prayers for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace. He also extended his sympathies to the immediate families and friends of the victims, hoping they find the strength to cope with this irreparable loss.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police urged organizations such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and all road users to prioritize and implement robust safety measures within their vehicles. He emphasized the importance of vigilance, adherence to speed limits, avoidance of overloading, and driving responsibly to prevent similar accidents in the future.
