At a press conference held on September 30, 2024, at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo Garba briefed the media on the recent activities and achievements of the Kano State Police Command in ensuring public safety and crime prevention. He emphasized the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state, highlighting its robust community engagement, intelligence-led operations, and continuous patrols aimed at swiftly responding to emergencies and distress calls.
In the past eighteen days, from September 12 to September 30, the Command successfully arrested 89 notorious criminals. Among those arrested were 15 armed robbery suspects, 10 suspected drug dealers, one human trafficking suspect, four individuals arrested for forgery, one suspected fraudster, 13 thieves, and 45 suspected thugs, commonly known as Yan Daba. The Command also rescued two victims of human trafficking and two kidnapping victims during this period.
Additionally, the police recovered a variety of illegal items, including one Dane gun and two toy guns, 21 cutlasses, 12 sharp knives, one motor vehicle, four tricycles, 11 motorcycles, 538 bottles of Bacardin syrup, a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, four sachets of Diazepam tablets, and various household items such as two air conditioners, one 250W solar panel, two iron doors, three gas cylinders, and three borehole pumps. In monetary terms, they seized a total of ₦1,523,000 and 20 mobile phones.
Commissioner Garba assured that the Command will continue to adapt its strategies to tackle emerging security challenges while acknowledging the significant reduction in crime rates in the region. He emphasized the importance of community engagement and partnership, thanking the Kano State Government, other security agencies, and the law-abiding citizens of the state for their cooperation.
Looking ahead to the forthcoming Independence Day celebration on October 1, 2024, he announced that the Police Command has made necessary arrangements to ensure adequate security during the event. He urged residents to cooperate with the police and adhere to safety guidelines. Furthermore, he encouraged the public to report suspicious activities and provide valuable intelligence to enhance collective safety.
In a moment of reflection, Commissioner Garba expressed condolences to the families of five officers who lost their lives in a tragic motor accident on September 23, 2024, while returning from an official assignment. He extended his gratitude for the support extended to the families of the deceased and the injured officers, reinforcing the Command’s commitment to their well-being.
