The Kano State Police Command has recorded a series of major breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal activities, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles, a motorcycle, and other valuables in separate incidents across the state.
According to a press release issued on June 4, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the successes stemmed from four coordinated operations targeting armed robbery and motor vehicle theft.
In the first incident, reported on May 23, 2025, detectives responded to a complaint from a resident of Abuja regarding a stolen white Mercedes Benz container truck. The suspect, Manassa Luper Israel, was apprehended while attempting to sell the vehicle in Kano. The vehicle was successfully recovered.
In another operation on May 28, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested 23-year-old Murtala Wada of Hotoro, Ladanai Quarters, suspected to be part of an armed robbery syndicate operating along Maiduguri Road. A Toyota Sienna vehicle bearing two different number plates and a Qlink motorcycle were recovered during the arrest.
Earlier in the month, on May 8, 2025, operatives intercepted a suspected stolen black Opel Astra loaded with textile materials and various goods. The suspect fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which has since been recovered by the police.
Additionally, on May 21, 2025, detectives recovered a Hyundai Elantra, a Suzuki lady’s motorcycle, five electric motors, an alternator, two roller machines, and two mixer machines from suspected criminals based on actionable intelligence.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law across the state.
All cases are currently under investigation, and suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
SP Kiyawa emphasized that the Command remains resolute in its resolve to combat criminal elements and called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
