The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under the leadership of Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, has recorded an impressive revenue generation of ₦102.5 billion for 2024. This remarkable performance represents a 94% increase compared to the revenue generated in the previous year.
Comptroller Chana attributed the success to the command’s strategic revenue collection framework, which incorporates innovative policies, robust enforcement mechanisms, and advanced technology. These measures, combined with enhanced border security operations, have strengthened the integrity of the revenue collection process and curtailed smuggling and other illicit activities.
In addition to revenue generation, the command intensified its anti-smuggling operations, yielding significant results. It generated ₦235.2 million in duty paid value from various seizures, including large quantities of foreign parboiled rice, spaghetti, second-hand clothing, and non-dairy creamer. The command also intercepted cannabis, Tramadol, expired pharmaceutical products, and other contraband items, which were handed over to the appropriate regulatory agencies such as the NDLEA and NAFDAC.
Notably, the command seized a combined 4,410 kilograms of pangolin scales in a joint operation with the Wildlife Justice Commission, apprehending a suspect in Mubi, Adamawa State. These efforts highlight the command’s commitment to wildlife conservation and compliance with international regulations.
Comptroller Chana acknowledged the crucial role of collaborative relationships with sister security agencies, terminal operators, licensed agents, and market associations in achieving these milestones. He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and his management team for their unwavering support and guidance.
The Kano/Jigawa Area Command reaffirmed its dedication to its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security. It pledged to maintain its proactive measures to address security challenges, enhance compliance, and promote economic growth within the region.
As the command continues to excel, it remains a vital contributor to Nigeria’s economic development and national security, setting a high standard for customs operations across the country.
