The Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has vehemently addressed a recent viral video falsely claiming that soldiers attacked a Police post in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The operation aims to set the record straight and clarify that the video was a malicious attempt to undermine the collaborative relationship between security agencies.
To provide an accurate sequence of events, on February 3, 2024, troops enforcing the Plateau State Government’s curfew in Mangu encountered two men and a lady in front of a hotel. These men, dressed in civilian attire, failed to identify themselves as police officers or provide any justification for being outside during curfew hours. When troops requested compliance with the curfew, a minor misunderstanding ensued, leading the men, later identified as police personnel, to mobilize their colleagues who fired teargas canisters at the troops. The Commander of the troops and the Divisional Police Officer Mangu swiftly intervened, leading to the amicable resolution of the situation within a few minutes.
The viral video, made long after troops left the scene, suggesting an invasion of a Police Station in Mangu, is the work of individuals seeking to incite discord between the military and the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State. Their goal is to disrupt the harmonious relationship between the two forces and promote their own agenda.
The Joint Military-Police Operation affirms that these attempts will not affect the existing bond between troops and other security agencies in their joint efforts to restore peace in Mangu. The public is urged to disregard such malicious and false narratives, continuing to support the collaborative efforts of troops and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security in the entire state.
