ISWAP Terrorists Suffer Heavy Losses As Nigerian Air Force Launches Devastating Airstrikes

In a significant victory for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched a series of successful airstrikes on November 7, 2024, targeting ISWAP strongholds in the Southern Tumbuns at Arina, inflicting substantial losses on the terrorist group. The operation, carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, marked a critical step forward in the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s (AFN) efforts to neutralize insurgents and secure Nigeria’s peace and stability.

The strikes came after intelligence revealed a mass movement of ISWAP fighters relocating from the Lake Chad Basin to the Southern Tumbuns, reportedly preparing for coordinated attacks in the area. High-value ISWAP commanders and militants were identified under dense vegetation at Arina Woje, prompting a precision-led assault by NAF fighter jets. The operation, which included powerful munitions and targeted cannon fire, struck key ISWAP hideouts, resulting in extensive damage to the insurgent’s infrastructure and personnel.

Reports indicate that the NAF’s fighter jets conducted follow-up strikes to eliminate insurgents attempting to escape, ensuring that no threat remained. This latest offensive builds on an earlier strike at Arina Woje on October 30, 2024, in which approximately 50 terrorists, including a high-ranking commander known as Qaid Bashir Dauda, were neutralized.

The sustained use of advanced Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) technology enabled the NAF to conduct precision strikes, which have become a vital element in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism campaign. These efforts underscore the AFN’s determination to dismantle terrorist networks, thereby reinforcing national security.

Air Commodore Olusola F. Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Nigerian Air Force, confirmed the success of the operation on November 9, 2024, stating, “The NAF will continue to support the AFN with both independent and joint operations to ensure the complete elimination of threats to Nigeria’s peace and security.”

This development reflects a robust and ongoing commitment by the Nigerian Armed Forces to address the security challenges posed by ISWAP and other terrorist factions operating within the region. With continued military pressure and strategic operations, the AFN aims to weaken and ultimately eradicate the influence of insurgents across the country.
