During a gathering at the IGP’s Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbeokun, Ph.D., NPM, expressed commendation for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit’s exceptional service in addressing evolving threats associated with explosive materials.
Acknowledging the unit’s vital role in concluding the Boko Haram insurgency, the IGP specifically lauded recent achievements, including the safe rendering of an Anti-disturbance IED at the University of Maiduguri and successful road clearance operations in Borno State. The IGP also praised the unit for recovering five IEDs from an unregistered vehicle while neutralizing three members of a separatist group in Anambra State.
Highlighting the dynamic security challenges, the IGP urged EOD Commanders to proactively monitor the production, importation, storage, transportation, distribution, and usage of explosives nationwide. Emphasis was placed on the significance of professionalism in countering armed and violent criminals.
Confident in the abilities of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Units, IGP Egbeokun reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force under his leadership to invest in training and equipping EOD personnel with the latest technologies to enhance their capabilities.
