INSECURITY: Police Kill 2 Robbery Suspects, Recover Arms, Vehicles In Anambra


Operatives of Anambra State Police Command claimed on Sunday that they had killed two gunmen over the weekend in separate operations at Okija in the state’s Ihiala Local Government Area.

DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the police public relations officer (PPRO), said this in a statement that was made available to Hybrid News Nigeria.

He added that police operatives in the state had upgraded and intensified operational positioning to respond to distress calls.

Ikenga claimed that four automatic pump action, four automobiles, four motorcycles, and other stuff were confiscated from the criminals.

“Anambra State Security Forces,” which are made up of the military and police, “neutralized two gunmen, recovered four automatic pump action rifles, one cutlass, one ash-coloured Lexus Jeep 350 with registration number KJA- 666HE, one white Toyota Hilux without registration, one white Toyota Corolla with registration number HAL- 732RF, one silver Highlander Jeep without registration, and four motorcycles without registration,” he said.

“On Saturday, July 23, 2022 (around 9:30 am), a distress call was made along the Onitsha/Owerri expressway junction going to Okija Nkwo Market, where some hoodlums had stopped the road and were robbing/extorting motorists.

The Joint Forces came in quickly, engaged the thugs in a gunfight, and neutralized one of the armed guys while the others fled the scene wounded”

“In another development, police officers observed another criminal group in Nkwo Market Okija at around 3:30 pm on the same date, harassing sellers, purchasers, and local residents while conducting a clearance operation.

The armed individuals were engaged in a gunfight by the Operatives. While others escaped the area, one of the suspects was neutralized, and two automatic pump actions and one matchet were recovered.

“No casualty on part of the operatives and the situation has been brought under control. Meanwhile, Operation is still ongoing to apprehend the other fleeing gang members.”

He said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Echeng Echeng, while charging the operatives to sustain the tempo against the onslaught on criminal elements, ordered that patrols be intensified and improved operational positioning to respond to distress calls in the state.
