INSECURITY: Major General Fejokwu Harp On Regular Training Of Officers

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) Major General Lawrence Fejokwu has harped on the preparedness of the Division to train and retrain troops as part of efforts to curb contemporary security challenges across the country.

Major General Fejokwu reiterated on the need to sustain the tempo of training during the opening ceremony of the Corporals and Below Competition held at 35 Artillery Brigade Alamala in Abeokuta.

He noted that the current security reality in the country has necessitated the need to sustain the tempo of training as outlined in the NA forecast of events 2021.

He said the participating units which include 9 Brigade, 35 Artillery Brigade and 81 Garrison will compete in 6 major events. These include Weapon handling, Drill, Swimming, Half Marathon race, Point to Point Navigation and Obstacle Crossing. He added that the events were selected in order to meet up with the standard of training observed in formations and units in the NA.

The GOC stated that the 5-day events will no doubt enrich the level of professionalism and make troops responsive in the discharge of their respective duties.

He said the competition is also in line with the Vision of the Chief of Army Staff which is to have “A Nigerian Army that is repositioned to professionally defeat all adversaries in a joint environment”.

He further told the participating troops that there is no better time for training than now that we are confronted with various security challenges across the country.

Highlights of the event include the Chief Judge Brief, inspection of participating units, Drill and Weapon handling competition.

Also dignitaries present includes, the GOC 81 Div Maj Gen LA Fejokwu who was the Special Guest of Honour, AIG Olusosola Zubair (Rtd) the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor of Ogun State and His Royal Majesty Oba Jacob Omolade Olubara of Ibara Kingdom. Others are Commanders of 9 Brigade and 35 Artillery Brigade as well as other Commanders and Principal Staff Officers, Representatives of sister agencies.
