A man decided to dump being a man, started dressing and behaving like a woman for more than 25 years.

Minani Samuel, 45, was born healthy and developed into a man like any other boy. Then the Civil Conflict broke out, and men were tracked down and slain more frequently than women. They were also forced to join armies and fight in the war. But none of this was what Samuel wanted. He had a family to support and was not in the mood to enlist in the military or risk his life by risking death. Therefore, he would only be able to survive by being as inventive as you
can imagine.

The likelihood of his survival would
depend on how he would drive out other men who by that point had arrived in his town in search of skilled men to take to the frontline.

Then he devised a seemingly impossible plan: to transform into a woman. He had to make as much of an effort as he could because the voyage was not easy and death was a possibility.

He acknowledged, “I was not born this way,” he admitted, “I changed slowly.”

He was able to get away with his antics since different armed groups constantly avoided his home rather than apprehending him because he could practically change himself into a lady.

“One day,” he told the our Reporter, “soldiers knocked on our door and asked me where the husband was and I replied that we live alone with no husband. They searched the whole house and found none and left us”.

When the war ended in Burundi, and
daily life returned to normal.

However, Minani continued to use the modified technique, staying the same and cohabitating with his wife, whom you might mistake for his sister.

The four children of the marriage share everything, including clothing. His wife, Irambona Denise, confirmed that they all shared the clothing. Even though Minani, also referred to as “Baby,” desires to be seen as a lady, he acknowledges carrying out his manly duties.

Irambona insists that her husband is still making her proud, in ever way even in bed. “He does all his
responsibilities as a man, that’s why we are now a big family with four children,” she said.

When our source asked him if he considers himself as a man or a woman, Baby replied that “In a way of body I am (a man) but I am more harry to appear as a woman,” he concludes.

Baby is the one who mostly goes out to markets and many people are still amazed by his look, even if many have already come to know him, since he has been like this for more than 25 years.

But Denise never judges him and she still feels confident to go out with him. “I don’t have a problem. We always go together, whether to churches and other places,” she said.

Minani, whose body is covered in ear-strings, is adamant to stay the way he is for the rest of his life.
