IMO Police Command Thwarts Kidnapping Ring In Avu-ihiagwa Forest, Arrests Five Suspects

In a swift response to actionable intelligence, the Imo State Police Command, led by Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma, in collaboration with local hunters, successfully dismantled a suspected kidnapper’s den concealed in the expanse of the Avu-Ihiagwa forest on January 29, 2024. The operation resulted in the apprehension of five individuals: Muazu Awuta (30), Abdullahi Abubakar (32), Ozeru Sabo (25), Saddam Suleiman (27), and Bashir Yahaya (28), all originating from Jau LGA in Jigawa State.

The arrested suspects are currently under thorough investigation, providing crucial information that authorities believe will lead to the identification and arrest of additional members of the kidnapping syndicate.

During the extensive sweep of the forest, law enforcement uncovered two decomposed bodies suspected to be victims of previous kidnappings. Among the seized items were mobile phones, wristwatches, footwear, and five operational motorcycles belonging to the alleged kidnappers. The command plans to conduct DNA tests to establish the identity of the deceased individuals.

The Imo State Police Command reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to curbing criminal activities within the state. The ongoing intensive operations, not only in the forest but also in identified black spots, underscore the determination to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
