IMION To Host Executive Seminar On Maritime Security, Global Trade

The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) has announced plans to host a high-level executive seminar titled “Maritime Security and Global Trade,” scheduled to take place on April 29 and 30, 2025, at the IMION Auditorium, NNS QUORRA, Apapa, Lagos.

The seminar aims to provide key players in Nigeria’s maritime and logistics sectors with a comprehensive understanding of the strategic role maritime security plays in facilitating and safeguarding international trade.

Designed for Blue Economy operators, port terminal managers, freight forwarders, logistics professionals, exporters, importers, and coastal community leaders, the seminar will address critical challenges and offer practical solutions to mitigate risks within Nigeria’s maritime domain and beyond.

Prominent maritime and security experts will lead the sessions, including:

– Mr. William Azuh, former Deputy Director at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with over 30 years of experience in maritime policy and administration.
– Rear Admiral Sunday Daniel Atakpa, Director of Operations at Naval Headquarters and an expert in Hydrography and Maritime Law.
– Dr. Obiora Edwin Madu, a logistics and supply chain veteran with over 36 years of experience and recipient of Nigeria’s National Productivity Order of Merit Award.
– Prof. Freedom Chukwudi Onuoha, a security expert and academic from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, specializing in maritime security, terrorism, and transnational crime.
– Rear Admiral Francis Dan Akpan (retired), former Defence Adviser to South Africa and other African countries, who played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s naval training.

According to the Director General of IMION, Rear Admiral TC Udofia (rtd), Ph.D., the seminar is part of the institute’s commitment to developing capacity and excellence in Nigeria’s maritime industry.

“The security of our maritime space is not just a national concern but a global priority. Through this seminar, we aim to empower industry players to contribute meaningfully to the security of international trade corridors,” he said.

The seminar will begin at 9:30 AM daily, and participation is open to interested professionals upon payment of a registration fee of ₦150,000.
