The Ikun-Akoko Progressive Union has officially announced the passing of its revered monarch, His Royal Majesty Pastor Michael Adedoyin Olokunbola, JP, the Olukun of Ikun-Akoko. The royal figure passed away on January 23, 2024, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital after a brief illness, having served his community since his installation on May 10, 2003.

HRM Olokunbola, who ruled for over two decades, was deeply cherished for his commitment to community development and his leadership qualities. Under his guidance, Ikun-Akoko saw numerous developmental projects that significantly improved the lives of its residents.

In line with the customs and traditions of Ikun-Akoko, all traditional rites of passage were completed within the three months following his passing before making a formal announcement. The community has respected these traditions meticulously, ensuring that their leader was honored with all due rites of passage.

The late monarch will be remembered in a celebration of life ceremony scheduled for May 4, 2024. This event will gather not only the local community but also invite the participation of the Ondo State Government and well-wishers from across Nigeria.

Further adhering to the traditions, the Odeolukun Ruling House has moved swiftly to ensure continuity of leadership by nominating and installing Princess Bolanle Deborah Jacob as the Regent of Ikun-Akoko. This installation, which took place on April 23, 2024, has been formally acknowledged by the Akoko SouthWest Local Government, thus maintaining the governance and ceremonial duties of the monarchy.

The Ikun-Akoko Progressive Union and the entire community express their deep sorrow at the loss of HRM Olokunbola and extend an invitation to his life celebration, hoping for prayers and support for the royal family and the residents during this mourning period.
