In a decisive response to the tragic attacks that rocked the Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State on December 24th, resulting in significant loss of life, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has taken swift action. Accompanied by the Force Management team, the IGP has arrived in Jos, Plateau State, to address the alarming situation.
Upon his arrival, IGP Egbetokun engaged in crucial discussions with Governor Celeb Manasseh Muftwang, the executive governor of Plateau State, and other key stakeholders from the region. In a bid to restore peace and ensure justice, the IGP has issued orders for the immediate deployment of a specialized team comprising operatives from various units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counterterrorism Unit (CTU), Special Forces (SF), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), and the Special Tactical Squad (STS). Their mandate is to meticulously comb the affected areas, identify the perpetrators, and swiftly bring them to justice.
To bolster the effectiveness of operations in Plateau State, the IGP has temporarily relocated the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 4, AIG Ebong Eyibio Ebong, psc(+), fcpa, mni, to the state. This strategic move aims to coordinate the ongoing operations seamlessly. Additional operational assets have been deployed to facilitate a comprehensive and expedited investigation.
Emphasizing the commitment to collaborate with the military as directed by the president, the IGP urged the people of Plateau State not to attribute any ethnic connotation to the incident. He reiterated that the attacks were orchestrated by armed criminals, urging national unity in condemning these despicable acts.
