IGP Urges Enhanced Professionalism, Diligence Among Police Commanders Nationwide


In a bid to fortify professionalism and ensure robust policing across the country, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, convened a gathering of tactical commanders at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Emphasizing the significance of regular training and supervision, the IGP highlighted their pivotal roles in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force.

Addressing commanders overseeing the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Border Patrol Force (BPF), and Safer Highway Patrol Teams, IGP Egbetokun urged the entrenchment of diligence and professionalism within their ranks. He stressed the continuous need for learning and skill development to tackle evolving challenges in law enforcement. The IGP underscored ongoing training programs as crucial for equipping officers with the latest techniques and strategies for effective policing.

Notably, the IGP directed commanders to take proactive measures in eradicating extortion within their jurisdictions, emphasizing the elimination of any form of corruption or misconduct to foster and maintain public trust.

In a concurrent engagement, the IGP held fruitful discussions with representatives from the Retired Senior Police Officers, Police Veterans Foundation, and the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (ARPON) at the IGP Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja. These dialogues facilitated the exchange of insights and experiences, fostering collaboration between active and retired members of the Force.

Expressing gratitude for the invaluable contributions of police veterans and retirees, the IGP acknowledged their wealth of experience as a significant resource for ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism within the police force.

Reaffirming the force’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, the IGP urged commanders to instill a culture of discipline, accountability, and responsibility among their subordinates. He emphasized the principles of community-oriented policing in reinforcing the bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
