Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has unveiled significant achievements by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over the past 7 weeks. The IGP shared these milestones during the monthly Police Conference with Strategic Police Managers, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
In the ongoing battle against violent crimes, the NPF has apprehended 814 violent criminal suspects, disrupting criminal networks and bringing perpetrators to justice. Notably, 107 kidnapped victims have been successfully rescued, with the recovery of 166 sophisticated firearms, 1,074 various ammunition, and 41 vehicles. Specific successes include the arrest of 3 notorious kidnappers in the FCT, 9 suspects connected to attacks in Mangu, Plateau State, and the rescue of kidnapped victims in the FCT, Rivers, Ekiti, and Kwara States.
The IGP commended the efforts of the NPF Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit in managing explosion risks and the National Cyber Crime Centre in clamping down on cyber-related crimes, leading to the recovery of over 36 billion Naira.
Strategic deployments during recent run-off/bye elections across 26 states yielded positive results, resulting in the arrest of 14 suspects, including 2 public officials for election-related offences. One pistol was recovered, and a thug was apprehended by members of the public.
The IGP urged senior officers to support subordinates with a penchant for sports, encouraging their participation in the upcoming 14th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) themed “OLUYOLE 2024” in Ibadan, Oyo State, from February 24th to March 2nd, 2024. He announced that the forthcoming Police Week/Award Ceremony would recognize officers displaying bravery and dedication in upholding peace and safety.
