IGP Egbetokun Decorates 8 AIGs, 15 CPs, Deploys Officers To Commands, Formations

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, PhD, NPM, decorated 23 senior police officers with their new ranks at a ceremony held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The event, marked by applause from family, friends, and colleagues, saw the promotion of 8 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs) to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police (CPs).

The promotions followed the recent approval by the Police Service Commission upon the IGP’s request.

Among the newly promoted AIGs were Benneth Igwe, Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, Augustina Nwuka Ogbodo, Stephen Olanrewaju, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, Adegboyega Funsho Adegboye, and Mohammed Bala Labbo. The newly appointed CPs include Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, James Iroegbunam Nwokolo, Felix Nka Oben, and Olusegun Eyitayo, among others.

Several high-profile dignitaries attended the event, including the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, Former Governors Obong Victor Attah (Akwa Ibom) and Dr. Achike Odinwa (Imo), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Josiah SAN. Senior police officers, both serving and retired, and the families of the promoted officers were also present.

Following the promotion, the IGP announced the deployment of the newly promoted officers to various commands and formations. Among the new postings, AIG Mohammed Ali, AIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, and AIG Benneth Igweh were appointed Zonal AIGs for Zones 1, 2, and 7, respectively. Several Commissioners of Police were also assigned to strategic roles, including CP Ibrahim Balarabe to CP Western PAP, and CP Olabode Adeleye to CP Intelligence FID, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and reminded them of their responsibilities as ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and meeting citizens’ expectations in their new roles. The IGP further pledged the Force’s commitment to ensuring a safer Nigeria for all.
