IGP Egbetokun Commits To Quality Service Delivery With Comprehensive Insurance Policy For Police Personnel


The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of its personnel and their families. In a significant move towards this commitment, the IGP has taken steps to implement a comprehensive standard insurance policy for the Force.

In a meeting held at the Force Headquarters on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, the IGP welcomed Mr. Sunday Thomas, the Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission. The objective of the meeting was to foster collaboration in establishing a robust insurance framework catering to the needs of Police Officers and their families.

Subsequently, on Thursday, January 18th, the Inspector-General of Police presided over the distribution of insurance benefits totaling Two Billion, Eighty-Six Million, Eight Hundred and One Thousand, One Hundred and Forty-Four Naira, Seventy-Nine Kobo (N2,086,801,144.79k) to seven hundred and eighty-five (785) families and Next of Kin of deceased officers. These benefits covered the insurance policy years 2015/2016, 2017/2018, 2021/2022 under the Group Life Assurance Policy and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme for the year 2022/2023. The ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters, symbolized the Police Force’s commitment to supporting the families of officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Cumulatively, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Insurance Office, has settled a total of Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Three (2,533) insurance claims of deceased Police personnel, amounting to Six Billion, Thirteen Million, Forty-Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira, Fifty-One Kobo (N6,013,043,326.51k) between June 2023 to date.

IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing police welfare and ensuring the timely release of premiums for deceased officers. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining efforts to promptly disburse insurance payments and other welfare benefits to beneficiaries.
