As Nigeria prepares to celebrate the Easter festivities, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and visitors during the period. In a directive issued, the IGP has ordered round-the-clock security and protection of public spaces across the country.

Under the directive, all State Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their supervising Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) have been instructed to deploy police personnel and operational assets to areas susceptible to security threats within their respective areas of responsibility (AoRs). Intensive and proactive visibility patrols will be conducted at worship centers, train stations, highways, motor parks, airports, waterways, recreation centers, banks, and other critical infrastructures and public spaces.

Additionally, the IGP has assured travelers visiting their hometowns and other destinations within the country of adequate security, regardless of their mode of travel—be it by road, air, waterways, or rail. Deployments have been increased, and visibility patrols intensified in all areas, including aerial patrol and surveillance.

Emphasizing the importance of professional conduct, the Nigeria Police Force underscores courteousness to law-abiding citizens while maintaining firmness and decisiveness towards criminal elements attempting to exploit the festive period for unlawful activities.

The IGP extends felicitations to Nigerians, particularly the Christian community, on the occasion of the Easter celebrations, expressing gratitude for their support. He urges continued cooperation with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies by providing timely and actionable information to prevent and combat crime.

As the nation commemorates the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the call for unity and vigilance resonates. The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and protecting the public, urging everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station/Post.
