In response to the surge in criminal activities, particularly the recent abduction incident in the Federal Capital Territory, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, convened a crucial meeting on January 15, 2024. The meeting, involving the Force Management Team and Tactical Squads, aimed to address growing concerns about insecurity across the nation.

Expressing deep concern over the alarming incidents, IGP Egbetokun stressed the urgency of decisive action to combat heinous crimes. The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of current security challenges, strategic planning, and the deployment of tactical resources to counter emerging threats.

The IGP emphasized the necessity of a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach to tackle the evolving security landscape. Tactical squads were instructed to intensify efforts in deploying proactive measures to prevent criminal activities and safeguard citizens.

To assure Nigerians, especially those in the Federal Capital Territory, of improved security, the IGP mandated the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations, to personally coordinate enhanced security strategies. The goal is to dismantle kidnappers and other criminal elements swiftly, restoring normalcy in the affected areas.

Beyond operational strategies, the IGP underscored the importance of community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. This approach aims to gather information, build trust, and foster a collective effort in combating criminal elements nationwide.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, reiterated these developments in a press release on January 16, 2024. The measures outlined by the IGP signal a commitment to addressing the security challenges facing the country through proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented initiatives.
