The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, chaired a crucial conference at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, today. The conference marked a significant moment as it gathered Strategic Police Managers to deliberate on the Nigeria Police Force’s recent accomplishments, reinforce security deployments for the fast-approaching yuletide season, and formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States Government’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) pertaining to the operationalization of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

In his address, the IGP stressed the paramount importance of seamless collaboration among law enforcement agencies, particularly with the festive season on the horizon. Commending the Police Force for their substantial strides in crime prevention and control, he attributed the achievements to proactive policing strategies and community engagement initiatives.

The IGP highlighted notable accomplishments within the past ten weeks, including the rescue of 134 kidnap victims, apprehension of 375 suspected kidnappers, 578 armed robbery suspects, 431 individuals for sexual offenses, 724 murder suspects, and 2,343 individuals for various criminal activities. Additionally, the Police successfully recovered 419 firearms and 4,235 ammunition of different calibers. Among the breakthroughs was the arrest of perpetrators involved in the fatal Otukpo bank robbery and the rescue of abducted Federal University Lafia students.

Moreover, an essential milestone during the gathering was the signing of an MoU between the Nigerian Police Force and the US Government’s INL. This agreement focuses on operationalizing the Special Intervention Squad, aiming to bolster the Force’s capacity in addressing evolving security challenges.

Expressing gratitude for the collaboration, the IGP emphasized the significance of international partnerships in combating transnational crime for the nation’s overall safety and security.
