Barrister Francis Moneke, a legal practitioner and human rights/public interest activist based in Awka has sued the Anambra State Government, Attorney General of Anambra State and the Anambra State Police for the blockage of Ziks Avenue Road in Awka thereby causing him untold hardship and pain amounts to a gross violation of his rights to freedom of movement enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
In a suit filed in Awka high court of Anambra State with suit number; A/MISC194/2021, the lawyer explained that through an order given by the governor and the state’s attorney general, the police blocked the Zik’s Avenue Road in Awka between Ifenna filling station and Amawbia roundabout which occasioned the restriction of his movement on the 14th and 20th of August 2021 causing him a lot of pains and violating his human rights.
He therefore asks the court to order the immediate removal of the roadblocks and for a restriction to be placed to avoid a repetition of such act. He is also asking for 10million naira to be paid collectively or by any of the respondents to him as damages.
